Bos Sires Genetic Partner
Joseph Klotz
The base of his program pulls from time-tested lines like:
Red Kingston 1840 via JT Brahmans
WEF 110 “George” via Fenn Brahmans
JDH Singlemann Manso, used in partnership
When it comes to sourcing new genetics, Joseph is cautious. He’s had enough of what he calls “propped up” bulls—those that look great in the ads but can’t back it up on pasture. His go-to additions have included animals like HM HotShot 411 from Kallion Farms and Finca Carvajal, and Nokia Peter Pan 818 from Nokia Brahmans. Beyond that? Very few make the cut.
At Klotz Farms in Sealy, Texas, the focus isn’t ribbons or records—it’s results. Since 1975, when Joseph Klotz’s father and grandfather first crossed Hereford with Red Brahman cattle, the family has stayed grounded in what works. And after stepping into the registered Brahman space in 1999, Joseph quickly learned what didn’t work, too.
Multiple early efforts to build a breeding program collapsed under the weight of genetic flaws—animals that looked good on paper but failed in practice. Rather than give up, Joseph recalibrated. Today, the Klotz program is built around Brahman and Golden Certified F1 females that are gentle, fertile, and—above all—functional in real-world, forage-based conditions.
No Frills, No Feed Bills
This isn’t a high-input operation. Joseph doesn’t rely on grain to make cattle look better than they are. Calves are either selected for personal beef, shown occasionally, or sold post-weaning—typically with little to no supplemental feed. Cows are expected to perform on pasture, trace mineral blocks, and a touch of hay in winter. Corn fodder or homemade molasses lick might come out in extreme cold, but even that’s rare.
His bulls don’t live a pampered life either. If they can’t thrive like the cows they’re supposed to breed, they don’t stay.
Joseph isn’t chasing trends or fads. He’s selling to both commercial and registered breeders who want cattle that hold up under pressure—and hold up their end of the deal. “Integrity and functionality are paramount,” he says. And it shows in the kind of cattle he produces, the kind of customers who keep coming back, and the kind of operation he’s building for the long haul.
Joseph didn’t join Bos Sires to fit in. He joined because he already stood out. His program reflects exactly what Bos Sires was built to honor: low-input, no-excuse cattle that deliver where it matters most—in the pasture, not the pasture photo. His cows tell the truth. So does he. And we’re proud to have him on the team.
