Mashona

The Mashona is an indigenous African beef breed originating from Zimbabwe. Developed over centuries under natural selection rather than intensive human manipulation, Mashona cattle are known for their fertility, heat tolerance, parasite resistance, and ability to thrive on sparse forage in harsh environments.

Mashona cattle are typically moderate framed with smooth coats, strong maternal instincts, and high reproductive efficiency. They are well regarded for calving ease, longevity, and their ability to maintain body condition under low input management. Because of their adaptability and natural disease resistance, Mashona genetics are often used to improve resilience and fertility in crossbreeding programs, particularly in challenging climates.

At Bos Sires, we recognize that there are variations within every breed. Our focus is not simply on breed label, but on selecting and representing the most functional, fertile, and forage efficient individuals within each breed. The Mashona cattle we align with reflect those standards cattle built for real world performance, structural integrity, and long term productivity rather than short term trends.
